The Lagos state government led by Akinwunmi Ambode has allocated one billion Naira for the renovation of schools, supply of furniture and education materials across all secondary
schools the state runs, the governor made this known today, Friday October 23rd,2015.
Ambode showing his dedication to the development of education in the state said his administration is ready to pump
money into the education sector, he also added that 1,300 teachers will be employed following last month’s screening of applicants.
The Governor said all this while at the inauguration ceremony of Catholic Church-owned Augustine University today. He also added that the state government will soon find a lasting solution to the crisi rocking the Lagos State University (LASU).
He said: “From my exposures, I have come to the conclusion that there is no greater form of preparation to manage change than through education”.
“There is no greater investment that the individual parent can make than investment in education of highest possible quality” Governor Ambode further added that the state which boasts of a population of about 20 million people with 60% of that figure below 30 years of age, is seriously in need of institutions of learning.
Archbishop of Lagos Catholic Archdiocese, His Eminence Adewale Martins while delivering his per-inaugural speech said that the idea to establish the University came seven years ago
with a goal to take Catholic education to the next level in Nigeria.
The Archbishop then thanked the State Government for its support.
